"Practical Progress OpenEdge Database Internals"

Presented by Gus Bjorklund of Progress Software

In this talk we look at selected OpenEdge RDBMS internals with a view to offering practical advice, knowledge, and tips to a Progress DBA. This talk is not just geeky insight into the workings of the database (though it will certainly have some of that). Our goal is enhancing the DBA's knowledge to optimize the DB and solve problems.

Topics:

  • Understanding create/toss limits
  • Understanding records-per-block
  • Using rfutil aimage scan verbose to understand and troubleshoot fast growing BI files
  • Understanding the rules for BI cluster allocation and re-use
  • Understanding 'obscure' parameters such as recspacesearchdepth, hash, etc.

"OpenEdge Architect -- Tips and Tricks"

Speaker: Ravi Sankar of Progress Software

(Note: This will be delivered via WebEx)

This talk will focus on some of the intermediate and advanced features of OpenEdge Architect. This assumes that the user is already familiar with Architect. We would cover some of the IDE customization and performance options available in Architect. The goal is to familiarize user with various options of extending architect to suit each developer needs.

  • Integrating Architect with external eclipse environments
  • Loading 3rd party plugins into Architect
  • Performance improvement options
  • Extensibility editor and subscribing to IDE events
  • Appserver overview
  • Using 3rd party .NET controls in visual designer
