Progress' Type 5 JDBC Drivers Address Driver Architecture Issues

Progress has created the first Type 5 JDBC drivers addressing limitations in Type 4 JDBC driver architecture. Specifically, the new Type 5 JDBC drivers offer the "same client-side, single-tier, 100% Java Type 4 architecture, while offering faster performance, better use of memory footprint, and simplified deployment, among other benefits," according to Progress.

These new Type 5 JDBC drivers will take advantage of new database features, data access models, and much more. Since 1998, Type 4 JDBC driver architecture has been the industry driver standard, but it has not kept up with changes in the areas just mentioned. Thus, limitations of Java applications often include slow or inconsistent performance, inaccessible functionality, etc.
